Today the Solomons Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad held their annual open house. It was a very refreshing event this year, with so many displays and activities for everyone. With so many events going on this day, many residents came by to check out the fire department offerings. There was lots of educational sessions as well as food and fun.

Demonstrations that occurred included a vehicle extrication, Calvert K-9 Search Team, home sprinklers, first aide station, and more. Other agencies on display also included Medstar Helicopter transport, SMECO, Calvert Sheriff’s Office, PG County Water Rescue, Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, American Red Cross and Calvert Animal Control. There was also a lot of fun including Mr Tom’s Critters and a Moon Bounce.

It was a great day and we really appreciated all the attendance by the community. Anyone who is interested in joining our department to learn new skills please see the website and fill out an application. We are looking forward to the next annual Open House next year when our brand new ladder truck and engine will be on display.
