At 1000 hrs crews headed to Cove Point Park to assist with the 50th anniversary activities for the Calvert American Little League. Shortly after setting up the American Flag for the parade. At 1048 hrs Calvert 911 alerted the Solomons volunteers to a large column of smoke coming from the backside of the Appeal Land Fill. Squad 3 responded from the park and arrived on the scene shortly after the dispatch to find a tractor trailer loaded with trash fully involved. Truck 3 was requested to respond for ladder pipe operations. Crews worked on this incident for a hour before clearing .

At 1049 hrs communications alerted crews to Village Center Dr and HG Trueman Rd for a reported auto accident. Squad 7 was dispatched due to Squad 3 committed to the landfill operations. Ambulance 37 and 39 arrived on the scene to find a t-bone style collision. Crews evaluated one patient for transport with non life threatening injuries and Squad 7 handled clean up.

Even though crews only spent a short time at the Calvert League event it still made a huge impact both to the community and all the children involved. Vice President Anderson who is both a department volunteer at Solomons and president of the little league would like to thank Solomons for their commitment to the the opening day event every year and is proud of the pledge the department has to the community.
