On Sunday, January 18, 2015 at approximately 2345 hrs members were in the station when they heard and saw deputies pass the station at a high rate of speed southbound on Route 4. Shortly after that the pre-alert in the station sounded indicating a mutual aid call to St. Mary’s County. At 2353 hrs, Solomons Volunteers were dispatched to Patuxent Beach Rd and Oaks Rd for an auto accident with entrapment. The accident was a result of a high speed police chase that began in our county and subsequently ended in a crash in St. Mary's, it is reported by police that the vehicle crashed at speeds greater than 100mph.

Rescue 3 staffed with 4 along with Ambulance 38 staffed with 4 responded to St. Mary’s County, leaving an additional crew in the station. Crews arrived on location to find a single vehicle over a guardrail resting on its roof down an embankment. The crew from Rescue 3 arrived shortly after Engine 91 and quickly deployed the Rescue42 struts to stabilize the vehicle to keep it from sliding further down the steep embankment. Once the vehicle was stabilized it was determined that this was going to be an extensive extrication due to the vehicles location, pinned between several trees, and the patient being severely pinned within. Crews from both Calvert (Rescue 3 and Ambulance 38) and St. Mary’s (Engine 91, Squad 7 and Squad 3) quickly and gracefully worked together to cut the doors off the vehicle in order to gain access to the patient. Once the vehicle was opened up it was determined that the patient was trapped between the roof and the dashboard. Crews on both sides of the vehicle deployed hydraulic rams to lift the vehicle off the patient. Once the vehicle was successfully lifted off the patient, the patient was freed from the mangled vehicle in just under 40 minutes from time of crew’s arrival until being handed off to waiting EMS personnel which in turn transferred care to Trooper 7 who flew the patient PG Shock Trauma. Crews from Solomons worked diligently with the crews from St. Mary’s for just under an hour and 45 minutes.
