In the morning hours of April 13 units from Solomons and surrounding departments were alerted to Cougar Ct in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates for the reported auto accident with a child pinned between a vehicle and a tree. First arriving unit Amb37 and Rescue 3 reported a single vehicle accident with a child pinned between the vehicle and a tree and a second pediatric patient with multiple long bone fractures to the legs. Command was established by Chief 3 and aviation transport was requested for the 2 pediatric trauma patients. The vehicle was stabilized by the crew from Rescue 3 to insure no further movement of the vehicle and an extrication plan was put into action for removal of the trapped child. Crews worked feverishly in close unison with on scene Paramedics to insure all interventions were in place prior commencement of the extrication plan. Utilizing the bumper wench, a slow pull of the vehicle was used to gain access to allow for the removal of the sliding side door which had sheared away pinning the child to allow further access of the patient. Once the door was removed, a second pull was made to free the trapped child. He was freed was place into an awaiting EMS unit for treatment and transport to the landing site. Both pediatric patents were flown to Children’s National Medical Center for their injuries by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7.
