Today the Solomons Volunteers hosted a day at the firehouse for the children attending the Camp Junior Sheriff with the Calvert County Sheriff's Department. The camp, designed for middle school students ages 10 to 13, ran from July 6 until July 10. During the camp children participated in a wide range of activities including traditional camp activities such as swimming, kickball, and obstacle courses. Students also learned about drugs, Internet/bike safety, defensive tactics, and how to keep their bodies healthy.

While at Solomons today children participated in a wide range of fire/EMS activities. During their EMS stations children learned basic first aid, how to bandage a injury, and some basic CPR techniques. Once completed with their EMS stations they moved onto basic fire fighting skills where they learned the proper way to exit a building filled with smoke, simple hose line attack techniques, and ended the day with some fun on our bucket brigade and tug of war fields.

After the day was over there were 65 very wet and happy children. The instructors for the camp commented back to the department how today was one of the children's favorite days during camp and Solomons completely exceeded their expectations. We look forward to Camp Junior Sheriff visiting our department next year for more fun and exciting activities.
