Just prior to the noon hour Calvert Control Center alerted units from Solomons and surrounding companies to 12984 Barreda Blvd. in the Drum Point community of Lusby for a working house fire. As units were coming on the air first arriving Chief 3 along with a second Solomons member arrived on scene and reported a 1 story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the eves and front door. Knowing that the unit was occupied by a family with children, the 2 personnel went to work unprotected by a hose line to search the residence with negative results. While searching the crew found the seat of the fire in the master bedroom and were forced out by the heavy smoke conditions. Both exited the structure and vented several windows then returned with the Green Line and extinguished the fire. Arriving unit pulled a hand line and checked for extension. The assignment was held to Company 3 and 7. Units for Company 3 assisted the MD State Fire Marshal during his investigation. The cause was determined to be a baseboard heater in the room which ignited clothing nearby. The American Red Cross is currently assisting the family.
