By Sergeant Colton Pounsberry
June 16, 2019

A concerned citizen stopped by the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department at 2000hrs and told crews that she saw a kitten located in the a storm drain when the looked up from under the Thomas Johnson bridge. Crews took Truck 3 for the initial survey of the bridge and located the kitten. Crews positioned Truck 3 and extended the ladder 100ft in order to reach the storm drain the kitten was in. First attempt at rescue was unsuccessful as the kitten ran back on to the bridge and down to the next drain. Assistance from the Calvert County Sheriffs office on top the TJ bridge was prove to be successful during the second attempt. The kitten was brought back to Truck 3 where Members of the Friends of Felines Organization were waiting with a cat carrier to take care of the kitten. More info on the kitten named TJ is located on The Friends of Felines Facebook page.
