Official Press Release Arrangements for Life Member/Safety Officer/Honorary Chief Walter Taylor

The Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department, Naval District Washington Fire Department, Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department & Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad regret to announce the passing of George Walter Taylor.
Walter joined the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department in 1988 at the age of 16 and held many officer positions over the years. He obtained his lifetime membership in 2017 and was currently serving as the Safety Officer at the time of his passing. Walter was also made Honorary Fire Chief in May of 2020.
Walter was hired by the Naval District Washington Fire Department at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in August of 2000 as a firefighter and was later promoted to the rank of Fire Inspector in 2014 at the Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. In 2015 Walter returned to Naval Air Station Patuxent River as a Fire Inspector and held that position until the time of his passing.
Walter joined the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department in 2004 and quickly became a huge asset to the department as well as one of the top runners for calls. Walter received a Silver Medal of Valor in 2016 for assisting a down firefighter out of a house fire. During his tenure with Hollywood he also held numerous line officer positions as well as Chief Engineer. He was still an active member with the department at the time of his passing.
Walter was also a past member of the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad where he served for numerous years.

Viewing & Prayers for Walter will be held at the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department on Monday June 1st, with viewing from 1600-2100 and Firemen’s Prayers being conducted @ 1900hrs. With the current situation viewing & prayers will be limited to the immediate family, Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department, Naval District Washington Fire Department, Hollywood volunteer Fire Department & Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad. Any members wishing to attend will need to maintain social distancing and wear face coverings
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 2nd @ 0930am at the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department with internment to follow at the Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, all departments are welcome to attend.

Any Calvert County departments wishing to participate & provide apparatus are asked to contact Vice President 3 (410-231-4128) by Sunday May 31st
