Walter Young Walter Young, also known as “Wally,” has been a member of SVRSFD since February of this year and is one of our Junior members. Wally is being recognized as our April Junior/Cadet Member of the Month! Wally is an Aide on the ambulance as well as a probationary firefighter. Wally is very passionate about running calls on the ambulance as an aide and taking any opportunity to train or learn something new! Daily, Wally can be found training with a senior member or officer, helping another junior or cadet member with training, or encouraging them to learn something new, and always bringing a positive light to those around him. Wally will, unfortunately, be leaving us at the end of May to pursue his career in Fire Protection with the United States Air Force! We could not be prouder of Wally for serving his country and gaining more knowledge in this field we all love and serve! We can not wait to see all he has learned when he returns home at the end of this year! We asked Wally what his favorite parts were about volunteering and being a member at SVRSFD, and this is what he said! “My time here has provided me with a renewed sense of purpose, perspective, and stability, all while allowing me to give back to the community in a meaningful way. One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering with SVRSFD is the opportunity to serve others during times of need, alongside a team of individuals who continually inspire me to grow and improve. As a probationary member, I have embraced every challenge as a chance to learn and develop both personally and professionally. This experience has not only shaped my character but has also equipped me with valuable skills and insights that I believe will be instrumental as I begin my career in Fire Protection with the United States Air Force.” Wally definitely has a bright future ahead of him at SVRSFD, and we can’t wait to watch him learn and grow! We wish him well in all his travels with the U.S. Air Force and couldn’t be more proud of him! |
