New Smoke Detector Laws

Maryland is the most recent state to require the more modern alarms which are tamper-resistant and last for 10 years without the battery needing to be replaced. It’s part of a nationwide trend to transition from old smoke detectors powered by 9-volt batteries to new smoke alarms that have a 10-year life span.

Ranch Club Brush Fire

Public Information Officer Norman Rea, December 31

At approximately 1012 hrs Brush 3 and Tanker 3 were alert to a small brush fire between two houses within the Ranch Club. Upon arrival a 10 ft x 30 ft area brush fire was confirmed. Early Morning SAR Call

At approximately 0302 hours crews were dispatched for a female experiencing leg pains. Once Ambulance 38 marked up more information was revealed that the patient was out searching for her dog and had fallen becoming pined. The location was unknown. With updated information a Rescue Box was initiated and Squad 3 was added to the call. Upon arrival on the last known location Chief 3 assumed command ... (Full Story)

No Caption Prince Frederick House Fire

Public Information Officer Norman Rea, December 30

At 1914 hrs while Engine 34 and Truck 3 were on a routine transfer to Company 2, Calvert requested the units to respond to the fire ground to assist with the overhaul of a working house fire. Chief 3A assumed a division two supervisor position while crews assisted with the overhaul within division two. All units cleared at approximately 2112 hrs.

Santa Visits Southern Community Center

The Solomons volunteers assisted Santa tonight by driving Santa to a group of daycare kids who were having there Christmas Party at the Southern Community Center. Santa arrived on Squad 3 with the assistance of Ambulance 38. Santa sat with the kids around the Christmas tree and handed out early Christmas presents to all the kids and talked to them about being good little boys and girls this year.
