Fully Involved Shed

Around 1100 hrs Solomons and neighboring departments were alerted to a shed fire on Hummingbird lane across from the Substation. Promptly Engine 34, Engine 33 and Ambulance 38 marked up. Engine 34 arrived and radioed back that they had a working fully involved shed and was pulling a line. Chief 3 Wilson and Chief 3B Nero arrived and assumed the command. Shortly after Engine 33 arrived and began water supply operations to Engine 34 while they continued to knock the fire down. Very shortly after the scene was put under control and the staged mutual aide companies were put in service while Company 3 re-racked the hoselines. At approximately 1200 hrs all equipment was in service.

| At 1500 hrs Amb 38 responded to St. Mary's county for mutual aid for a
cardiac distress. Due to no medic available in St. Mary's Amb 38 was upgraded to a
medic ambulance (FF/Medic Chris Shannon ) and BLS support provided by EMS Chiefs 3 (
R.Smith), 3B (B. Smith), and FF/EMT ( C.Roper). Special thanks to EMTs from the

At 1713 on July 3 2008 units from Solomons ( E-34) and St. Mary's County
(E-2-92) were alerted to smoke in the building at the Solomons Yachting Center. Upon
arrival, light smoke was showing from a basement building. Crews from 2-92 and 34
investigated to discover a small fire that was put out by the owner. Crews from Amb
39 provided patient care to an occupant who had smoke inhalation.

Late Nite Transfer

At 0233 hrs, Company 3 was requested to fill in at Saint Mary station 23 station while they were on a house fire in their first due. Manned with a crew of three Tanker 3 went over for a fill-in. During the fill in the crew ran one fire alarm call over by station 29. Tanker 3 returned to station 23 while crews on the house fire cleanup and put away hoses. Tanker 3 returned to quarters at 0530

Rescue Box 309
AT 1700 hours units from company 3 were alerted to a rescue box at the front gate of the CRE involving two vehicles. Rescue 3 arrived on scene first with Sgt. 3 in command. EMS LT. 3 was in charge of patient care. Injuries were minor and AMB. 39 transported one patient to CMH. All units cleared at 1745 and returned in service.

Severe Weather in Lusby

At 1030 hrs all Calvert stations were alerted to a tornado warning for the area and about the incoming severe weather. Having heard the disaster that had happened up in North Beach crews went the the main and sub stations to prepare for a nite of running calls. The amount of people at the stations we were able to fully man every unit. Then it started with the first call "tree in the middle of the roadway." BX-3 responded and then the mess of calls began pouring in. Before the nite was over Company 3 ran many calls including trees into houses, wires, and roadways, a car accident, a water flow alarm at Appeal Elementary and even a shed fire down Harbor Way. We would like to thank all the dedicated volunteers who came out this evening standing ready to help the community with anything the storm threw at them. Great Job!!!!

Bathroom Fire

At 2333 hrs, Calvert stations Solomons, Saint Leonard, Prince Frederick and Saint Marys stations Bay District and Hollywood were alerted to a 310 box on Deadwood drive for a reported bathroom fire. Promptly units began marking up and responding including Engine 34, Truck 3, and Chief 3A. Engine 34 was the first to arrive scene and reported that there was nothing evident. Chief 3A established command and was advised by Engine 34's crew that the fire had been put out with the water extinguisher. Chief 3A held the scene with company 3 units and Engine 71. Engine 71's crew pulled a crosslay and staged it at the entrance of the residence as backup in case anything was discovered during overhaul. No further extension was found. Units clean and reracked all the equipment and went in service at 0107 hrs.

Solomons Assist in Search

At 2100 hrs, after Solomons had transported a medical call for a child who had fallen off a bike at Calvert Cliffs State Park. Solomons was dispatched on a local box to assited police with the search for the other two children lost on the trails within the park. Promptly BX-3 and Utility 3 responded and headed to scene. Ambulance 37 also responded from CMH to assit. The Utility and BX crews proceed down the bike trail searching. While enroute Ambulance 37 drove down H.G Trueman to check out the previous meeting locations for the group and then proceeded to staging at the end of the bike trail. Shortly after the children were located at the beach and all units cleared at 2147.

Vehicle into Hydrant

At 1758 hrs members of Solomons and Saint Leonard were alerted to a motor vehicle accident in which the car had struck a fire hydrant in the Ranch Club. Upon arrival firefighters found a vehicle with serious front end damage and the fire hydrant gushing water. Members packaged the driver and Ambulance 37 transport him priority 2 to CMH. Other units stayed on scene until the Chespeake Water service arrived and assisted in securing the water supply. Rescue 3 also responded to a service call down the street for flooding conditions in a basement contributed by the fire hydrant. They assited with damming around the house so the water flowed away from the dwelling. All units cleared the scene at 1859.

Vehicle wrapped around Tree

At 0020 hrs Solomons, Saint Leonard and Hollywood departments were alerted to an accident on Mill Bridge road. Very quickly Car 3 (EMS Lt. Harris), Ambulance 78, Engine 34, and Squad 27 got on the air and started to head to the scene. Safety Officer 4 Miller was also en route and arrived one scene with Ambulance 78 and Car 3 initially and advised all other incoming pieces that they had a vehicle wrapped around a tree with heavy entrapment. Shortly after Engine 34 arrived and began an aggressive attack at dismantling the car. Squad 27 arrived and provided additional manpower and much need scene lighting. Both crews worked very intensely through the torrential pouring rain to free the patient. The patient was then transported priority 1 to Washington Hospital Center. We would like to thank both the crews from Saint Leonard and Hollywood for their dedication on helping us with this late nite rescue in the most horrible conditions imagined. The team as a whole performed an amazing rescue. Units remained on scene for the reconstruction and all cleared at 0338 hrs.

MVA – COVE POINT AT LITTLE COVE PT

On Monday April 7 th at 0939 hrs, units from Solomon's and St Leonard were alerted to an auto accident at Cove Point road and Little Cove Point Rd. Rescue 3 (FF Brown), Ambulance 38 (EMT Billings), Engine 34 (Chf 3-B Nero), Ambulance 78, EMS Chief 3, EMS Chief 3-B and Chief 3 responded. Chief 3-B arrived and assumed command. He found 2 vehicles on scene and the striking vehicle had left the scene. There were 2 patients transported and 1 refusal. Command held Solomon's units only. All units returned to service at 1000 hrs with Ambulance 38 transporting 2 to CMH. The striking vehicle and operator were found a short time later by CCSD.

CPR TRAINING AT CO 3

On Sunday April 6 a few members participated in CPR training at the fire house. This is one of the first training classes new members take in order to start riding the apparatus. Members also must keep their CPR current in order to serve our community. It was also an opportunity for 3 of our new instructors to teach their first class while being monitored by a senior instructor. Their initial training is now done. Congratulations to new CPR instructors Lori Roper, Bettie Smith and Devon Fehn!

Service Call

On Sunday April 6 th, units from Solomon's were requested for assistance from the Calvert Co Sheriffs Dept. two deputies were out with a person who was using an electric wheelchair that had become disabled. Due to the situation, Ambulance 39, Engine 34 and Car 3 (EMS Chief 3-A) responded to assist. They were able to transport this person back to their home and also transport the disabled wheelchair in Car 3.

Guidos Fire

On the morning of April 4 th at 0551 hrs, Units from Solomons, St Leonard, Bay District and Hollywood were alerted for a reported building fire at Guidos Resturant and Bar in Lusby. The report came from police units who had responded to the establishment for a burglar alarm. Engine 31 (Sgt 3 Malveaux) were the first to arrive with smoke showing from the building. Command 3 ( Captain Ridgley) arrived and assumed command. The fire was found downstairs. Units worked to extinguish the fire and checked for any extensions. The Fire Marshall and SMECO also responded to assist. All units cleared at approx 0900 hrs

Wagon Goes To St. Mary's County
Around 1100hrs Co. 3 was dispatched mutal aid to St. Mary's Co at 24034 North
Patuxent Beach Road for the Working House Fire. Engine 3-1 responded in seconds
under the command of Deputy Fire Chief Steve Nero. Engine 7-3 ( Hollywood) arrived
to find a Single Family residence with heavy fire showing from side "C" Charlie.
Engine 3-1 arrived behind 7-3 and advanced the pre-connect attack line off of
Engine 7-3. The crew off of 3-1 was directed by Command to side Charlie where the
propane tank was located and cool it down. Chief 3A (Bay District) had the
Command. Truck 3 was also alerted on the Second Alarm to the fire ground but was
not utilized and was placed in service. Co. 3 units cleared at 1300hrs.

First Due House
At 1300 hrs Co. 3 and Surrounding Companies were alerted to 12,922 Mariners
Circle for the brush fire next to a residence. Engine 33, Truck Company 3,
Engine 34, and the Fire Chief responded in seconds. First arriving Engine 33
reported smoke showing from side "B" and advanced the 150ft 1 ½ bumper line. The
fire was contained to the exterior of the house only with minor damage to the
siding of the residence. Chief 3 ( Wilson) arrived and established the Command
and would hold Co. 3 units only. After putting the 4" LDH back on 33, an ATV was
riding on Mariners Circle, and was approached by the owners. Due to the ATV
being stolen; Command requested a County Deputy to respond to the scene. Before
the Deputy arrived Co. 3 Firemen and the suspect were involved in a foot
pursuit, he was caught moments later, and turned over to a County Deputy. Co. 3
cleared at 1400hrs.

MVA Overturned
At 0808hrs Rescue 3, EMS 3, EMS 7 (St.Learnard), CALS and St. Mary’s Squad 23 (Bay District) was alerted to Rt. 4 area of the base of the bridge for the auto accident reported overturned. First arriving Squad 23 advised 2 vehicles’s involved with conformed 1 overturned with no one trapped and started patient care. Rescue 3 arrived under the command of F/F C. Brown and established the Command and gave Squad 23 EMS Sector. Due to the injuries of the patient the medic off of Medic 10-5 advised Command to start the helicopter. There were three (3) injuries total. Ambulance 7-9 transported 2 priority 3 patients for check up, and Ambulance 3-9 handled the priority 2 patient. Rescue 3 handled the L.Z on the scene. Trooper 7 transported the patient to an area trauma center. Command was terminated at 0848hrs.

Saint Mary's Airport Crash

At 1149 Ambulance 38 with EMS Captain Siler and EMT Malveaux responded mutual aid to St. Mary's county for a plane crash at the Municipal Airport. EMS Sergeant Betsey Fehn responded POV from California to assist the crew. Fortunately no one was injured in the crash and signed refusals were obtained. A38 was PIS at 1159 and then responded to a trouble breathing call in Hollywood while they were committed to the crash.

Mobile Home Fire

At 1909 Monday, January 28, 2008 units from SVRSFD were alerted to a working mobile home fire on Coster Road. As Assistant Fire Chief Rogers (Chief 3A) approached the scene he witnessed a large column of smoke and the glow from the fire. Chief 3A arrived on location to find a mobile home with heavy fire extending to a nearby shed, at this time a working fire dispatch was requested.
Engine 33 and Truck 3 arrived on location with in a few minutes of dispatch. Engine 33's crew stretched three attack lines and made an aggressive attack on the fire. Engine 34 arrived on location and began supplying water. Mutual aid companies from Hollywood, St. Leonard, and Bay District assisted with further fire attack, mop up and overhaul. Assistant Fire Chief Rogers had Command, Fire Chief 3 Rich Wilson had Operations, EMS Chief 3 Ricky Smith had EMS, Probationary Member Ryonn Taylor had Accountability, and Firefighter Walter Taylor had Water Supply. Units were released in less than 2 hours.

Route 4 and Rousby Hall

At 1551 hrs Solomons was alerted to a motor vehicle accident reported serious at the intersection of route 4 and Rousby Hall Rd. Immediately Rescue 3 (Captain Thomas), Engine 34 (FF Nuse), Ambulance 37, and Ambulance 38 got on the air and responded. When units arrived on scene firefighters found a Mercedes which had hit a pickup resulting in also knocking down the light pole. EMTs and firefighters quickly extricated two of the and transported them to Saint Mary's. It was also reported other patients were involved but fled on foot. The Calvert County K-9 unit and Trooper 7 were called to assist in the search. The other patients could not be found so units went in service at 1724

Car into a pole

Units from Solomons and Saint Leonard were alerted to an auto accident on Catalina Drive at Laramie Lane in the Ranch Club. Units responded to the scene to find a single vehicle with two occupants that had struck a utility pole. Ambulance 38 and Engine 34 arrived immediately. Ambulance 38 began patient care while Engine 34's crew secured the scene. Chief 3A (Rogers) arrived in Rescue 3 and assumed command. Ambulance 38 treated the passenger while Ambulance 78 took care of the driver. Due to the damage of the vehicle command requested that a helicopter be sent to transport both to a trauma center. Rescue 3 handled the landing site at the CRE airport for Trooper 7 while Engine 34 remained on scene awaiting SMECO. Both patients were flown to PG Hospital. All units cleared at 0110 hrs.
