On the afternoon of Saturday September 19th at 11:12 hours the Calvert Control Center alerted Solomons and surrounding companies to Water Rescue Box 305 for the boat explosion with multiple persons in the water. As units for Solomons (Eng. 31, Amb. 37, Amb. 38 and Boat 3) responded additional information was received that the boat was fully involved with fire and there were 3 pediatric patients with severe burns that had been pulled from the water and taken to a separate location close to the incident. Eng. 31 arrived at the marina to find a the vessel adrift in the harbor fully involved and instructed all EMS assets to report to the separate address on Valarie Ln where all burn patients were located and an EMS group was established. As patient care was tended to the crew from Eng. 31 stretched a line to protect the marina as the fire boat went to work on the vessel which had beached itself about 60 ft from the docks. The fire was brought under control within minutes. All patients were transported to Children National Medical Center for their burn injuries received during the event by Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 7 and US Park Police helicopter Eagle 1. Units cleared in approximately 2 hours. Solomons Volunteers would like to wish a speedy recovery to the family and children involved in this tragic incident.
