At approximately 1000 hrs, as volunteers in the tri-county area were preparing to depart for the annual fire convention being held at Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, Solomons Volunteers and neighboring departments were alerted to a house fire in Cove Point with visible flames. Promptly the Solomons Volunteers and neighboring departments responded.

Engine 71 and Engine 31 arrived on location advising that they had a single family two story dwelling with heavy fire out of the second story addition. As crews began an aggressive attack on the fire it was advised that there was one patient trapped within the building. Crews immediately began a search and rescue and were able to find the patient who had sustained serous smoke inhalation and second/third degree burns. Awaiting EMS stabilized the patient's condition and immediately transported to Calvert Memorial due to the helicopters being down for weather.

With the arrival of additional units from Prince Frederick, Huntingtown and Saint Marys crews were able to contain the fire within 15 mins. Due to this fire two elderly adults have been displaced from their residence and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross. The total estimate loss due to the fire is approximately 250K and the start of the fire is still under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Units operated on scene for approximately 4.5 hours and cleared the scene at 1430 hrs.
