Kicking the New Year off with a Lifetime Member Spotlight Charles “Bucky” Dowell Jr.

Charles has been with the SVRSFD for more than 15 years. He has brought so much knowledge and experience while adding to the growth of our department over time. Charles served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1965 with serving 4 years in the Missile Weapons Systems Field.

Once leaving the Air Force he became a Maryland State Trooper from 1966 to 1987 where he retired after 21 years of service. During his time of service Charles obtained his Firefighter Certificate, Red Cross Senior Life Saving Certificate, IV Technician Certificate, Child Sexual Abuse Training, Southern Maryland Women’s Safety Council, Drug Prevention Training, and so much more. These are just a few of the services Charles fulfilled in his time from 1966 to 1987. After leaving the State Police he continued to serve his community while working with the Calvert County Health Department, and Calvert Health Hospital where he retired in May of 2005. Once retired from the hospital Charles didn’t slow down! Some of you may recognize him from the Calvert County Courts where he served as a Supervising Court Bailiff and Building Security.

In addition to all of the incredible training he has had we must acknowledge that he also found time to complete his Firefighter II Certificate, EMT Training Certificate, Severe Storm Awareness Training, Homeland Security Exercise Training Program, Radiation and Anti-Terrorism Training.

Charles now continues to serve the community as a Lifetime Member with SVRSFD and Operate the Grandmothers Store LLC on Dowell Road. There is not enough room to list all of the accomplishments he has made during his service to our community but it is without a doubt an Outstanding Impression he continues to make on everyone around him! SVRSFD is Honored to have him!
