Bernie Shea
Bernie Shea joined the SVRSFD in 1977 and is one of our Lifetime members. Bernie is being recognized as our May Lifetime Member of the Month! Bernie had a long career as a paid firefighter with the Naval District of Washington Fire Department for 30 years and has also been the charter captain of his charter boat business since 1982. Bernie has held various roles in our department. On the operational side, he has held every position from sergeant to the Chief. On the administrative side, he has served as a board member, vice president, and president. He is also the operator of our fire boat and the driver of all other apparatus. Bernie has spent years of his life giving to our department and serving our community. His reputation for hard work, leadership, and tradition is a large part of our department and has helped shape the department and its members into what it is today. His dedication, pride, and sacrifice are immeasurable, and he is truly an asset to our department.
We asked Bernie what some of his favorite parts were about being a volunteer and a member of the SVRSFD, and this is what he said!
“I enjoy helping communities and people in times of need. I want to be able to help someone on their worst day and make it just a little better. I take pride in passing on knowledge and experience to younger generations so they can too help someone and provide the best service. The members of this department have become family and I am proud to be a part of the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Dept.”
Bernie is a one of a kind member and person and we are so proud to have him as a member of the SVRSFD! |
