Sam Ditcher

Sam has been a member of SVRSFD since September 2023. Since then, Sam has gained his EMT certification and is frequently riding the ambulance, providing service to our community. Sam is being recognized as the regular member of the month for October! Sam grew up in Lusby and has been involved in healthcare and in serving the community through volunteering with SVRSFD, as well as in his full-time job as a secretary in the ER at Calvert Health Medical Center. Sam is very passionate about helping people and can always be found around the station completing his ambulance check-offs or participating in training to make him a better provider. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated provider and member as a part of our SVRSFD family!

We asked Same what some of his favorite parts of being a volunteer and a member of the SVRSFD were, and this is what he said!

“My favorite part of volunteering is being able to make an immediate and direct impact on someone’s worst day—the thrill of responding to calls. Volunteering here has really helped me build confidence and stay calm under pressure, and that comes a lot from the teamwork and trust in our crew. My favorite part about being a member of SVRSFD is that our response area feels like home — especially down towards the very south end of the county — and I like that we get to serve such a mix of places, from farms to beaches and everything in between. I also like that we sometimes get to run with St. Mary’s, which not every station gets to do. Also, everyone at SVRSFD is very inclusive and supportive of one another, which is a very special quality. I consider it to be a privilege to get to work with a team of so many caring souls.”

We are so proud of all Sam has accomplished so far, and we cannot wait to see his continued growth. We are so grateful for him every day!
