Solomons Fire Boat 3 Committee Completes Mid-Build Inspection in Canada
SOLOMONS, Md. — In early August 2026, members of the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department’s Fire Boat 3 committee traveled to MetalCraft Marine in Canada for a three-day round trip to inspect the new vessel during its mid-build phase.
The inspection took place when the boat was approximately 90% complete in metal fabrication. This stage allowed the committee to conduct a thorough quality inspection and review fabrication practices, techniques, and build-to-specification checks. The team also examined the vessel’s structure, hull, superstructure, and fire-suppression plumbing.
The committee reported that the quality of the workmanship and the collaboration with the design team are on track with the standards identified during the department’s research and development process to select a manufacturer.
Fire Boat 3 is expected to enter the painting, electrical, and mechanical fit-out stages in the coming weeks, with completion anticipated in early December 2026. Winter weather may present challenges for testing before delivery. The vessel is expected to arrive in Solomons, Maryland, in early spring 2027.
The Solomons VRSFD membership and Fire Boat 3 committee extend their thanks to the Calvert County community, Calvert County government, and state officials who have helped make this new vessel possible. Fire Boat 3 will serve the Chesapeake Bay and its waterways for many years to come.
